A finance tracking app I made as a final semester project. The app helps users track and improve their finances with goals, transactions, and multiple account support. Features graph summaries of spending habits and gamification elements.
Safe Spend is a comprehensive personal finance management application designed to help users take control of their financial health. The app combines practical budgeting tools with engaging gamification elements to make financial tracking both effective and enjoyable. Built as a final semester team project, it demonstrates modern mobile development practices and user-centered design.
Multiple account support - Track checking, savings, and credit cards in one place
Financial goals system - Set and track progress toward savings targets
Transaction management - Easy interface for recording income and expenses
Spending analytics - Visual graphs showing patterns and trends over time
Gamification elements - Achievement system to encourage good financial habits
Budget tracking - Set monthly budgets and receive spending alerts
The main challenge was creating an intuitive user experience for complex financial data. We needed to make the app powerful enough for detailed tracking while keeping it simple for everyday use.
Implementing real-time synchronization with Firebase while maintaining data security was a significant technical challenge. We also needed to ensure the gamification elements felt rewarding without overshadowing the app's practical purpose.
Safe Spend was successfully completed and received excellent feedback as a final semester project. The application effectively balances functionality with user experience, and the gamification elements proved successful in encouraging consistent usage.
The project demonstrated strong mobile development skills, understanding of modern Android architecture, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment to deliver a polished application.
